Link Of The Day - Every Trick in the Book

SNL's new title sequence contains enough trendy techniques to satify camera geeks & hipsters alike while giving trolls & "Cooler than you's" lots of material for criticisim & mockery.

Everyone else just says ""hey, that's cool" & how'd they do that.

http://www.alex-buono.com/how-we-did-it-snl-titles-sequence/

Pretty good article on how they made it and how they came up with the ideas.
If nothing else it's made me think maybe I can get away with using stuff I always thought was "gimmicky".
I still think a little gimmick can go a long way.

Season Finale

https://www.flickr.com/photos/66888488@N02/15529504382/

Closing/Fan Appreciation Day.  Racing shots, presentations, prize draws & some general crowd & fan shots.

As the final 'Event Day Video' I wanted to try a few different thing, while keeping the basic fiormat we have been using throughout the year.

There are a few different camera angles, theres some "slo-Mo" (overcranked @ 60fps the time remapped), and I used some off camera sound from

the TV feed to mix with nat sound and then laid a music track under that.  As always fi I had it to do again or if i had another week to rework ti I'd

tweek things and make a few changes but that can go on for ever.

Projects like this are alway a juggle between adding one last thing or making another revision and getting it out to people while the content is still fresh.

Another Track Video --- OR --- Circle the Course for Cancer & Cope

The 1st time I've been able to sneak some time lapse into a video for the Track .

To be honest I didn't have to 'sneak'  it in, but I did need someone to watch the camera while it did the time lapse. I'd give her credit, but I'm horrible with names, but her whole family was volunteering for the event and she passed on walking the track to sit with a camera until I got back.

The Time lapse is short, and I should have spent more time with the panning , but It is the 1st time I've used a time lapse in a paid video.

Enough rambling here's the links (on my Flickr)  https://www.flickr.com/photos/66888488@N02/15204334416/

latest video for the track

Commercial for the Circle the Course, charity walk at the end of the month.

There's always more work to to do and improvements but, when the deadline looms you have to stop making changes and just get it finished.

There is a short version running on Cogeco channel 10,  but this is the Bigger Better Full Length version. We will be running it on our simulcast show here at the track and I'm sure it will be on Facebook and Twitter too.

Here's where i've posted it.

I'll put on my YouTube Channel when I get a chance.

Next;  I have to finish and post a video from last weeks Prince Of Wales Stakes Race.

Pic Of the Day - Leading the Eye

 Leading the Eye
A bit of fun light & shadow, distance & focus.
In theory your eye should be drawn to the brighter part of the photo & your eye should also be drawn to the part of the frame that is in focus. The alternation of light & dark is supposed to give a fuller sense of space and just might help lead the eye beyond the initial point of interest and explore the frame more.

That's the theory as i understand it. i wonder if any of it actually works in this photo.

What will canon do in 2014?

What will canon do in 2014?

Here's my predictions for what canon will release in 2014 & when.  Maybe predictio is not the right word, more like a possible & wishful accumulation of rumours.

MARCH -APRIL
An entery level body (rebel)
Maybe T6i? What ever it's called it's un likely to be mirroless. Lots of people abelieve mirrorless is the future, but canon has sworn off  mirrorless in north america. They have already said m2 is not going to North America, they could still announce realase dates in march and leave North america to choose from the 5 current flavours of sonsumer APS-C bodies avalable (yes I know two have been discountinued)

APRIL
There is supposed to be cinema EOS announcement @NAB in April. Possibly a new body (with 4k?)or maybe dual pixel upgades for more miodels and/or dates the upgrades will be released.

Heres an intersting thought. Canon could release a 4k aps-c body for around 1000-1200, heck eventhrow in dual pixel AF, to give them something like the GH4 that is making headlines.
That would be cool.
That is almost definately NOT happening.

AUGUST
7Dmkiii or Replacement with a new name.
The rumours are saying this will be released in Germany at Photokina.
Hey, why not there where spec lists for the 7mkii almost since the original hit the shelves.
There are many spec lists but most agree on 24mp sensor, dual pixel AF, good weather sealing, and other 'advanced video features' which no one ever seems to explain.  Predicting when the 7mkii will eb realsed and what it will be like has become a bit of an anual tradition, eventually canon will realse it (or replacement) and Someone will be right about the date.

Well those are my musings on what canon might be up to this year or at least the first half of it.

*Note: I didn't mention lenses as I really don't follow lens annoucements that much.

Pic Of the Day - I don't do this

http://www.flickr.com/photos/66888488@N02/

I rarely do desaturation, it's just not my thing, but just like any rarely used effect it has a time and place. As I was tweaking the colours the image wasn't really shaping up, until I tried desaturating the colours a bit and it looked better.  so took away a bit more and looked even better.
So here we are just a bit of colour, a bit of an experiment and i hope a reasonable result.

Are we there yet?

Are we there yet?
Not yet ...soon.

That what this winter is starting to feel like. Every time we think the weather has finally broken & spring is on it's way, get hit with cold temperature, more snow & more shoveling.

But winter CAN'T last forever, right?

Another shot of the 'tourist area' of Niagara Falls, Canada.

Pic Of the Day - Macro Monday - Melt (#1?)

Melt (#1?)

Today's Macro Monday photo is a bit out of place as we are once again in a deep freeze at the moment.

The interesting shapes of melting snow always catch my eye.
Some times you get little microcosms that echo the larger melting events happening all around.

It's titled 'Melt (#1?)' because there will probably be more photos in the same vein when the snow & ice once again begin to melt.

Happy Monday.

Run!

Dinosaurs under the Ferris wheel in Niagara Falls, Canada.

Pic Of the Day - Tourist Area

Tourist Area
A view of the (some of) the tourist area in Niagara Falls, Canada.  We have the Ferris wheel, the Skylon tower behind and the Falsl view casinoto the left and hotels to the right and the foreground is the back of clifton hill.  On this day during the off season things where pretty quiet.  Small groups of people wandering between restaunts and attrractions, during the busy season I usually avoid this whole area, with it's traffic and crowds, unless I want to do a bit people watching.
